Police Log

Feb. 29

   Out with at Harris Hall with staff, parent and student.

   Out to post office to help with a student who fell.

   Out with a student at the Science Center.

   Working on accident reports, out to unlock a vehicle, patrolling, out for a boost.

   Received call about a loud party at Family Housing.  Advised subjects to be quiet.

   Make traffic stop, issue warning.

   Monitoring  traffic around campus.

   Broke up a large group of individuals at the side parking lot of the Steelman Field House.  Upon approach, the group re-entered their vehicles and proceeded to leave campus.  Group was followed until all individuals were off campus.

  

March 1

   Monitor four-ways make a couple of traffic stops.

   Out to talk with Monticello Police Department.

 

March 2

 

      Noticed a couple of vehicles behind the John F. Gibson University Center.  Two subjects ran as I drove by.  Stopped vehicles.  Five UAM students dumping trash behind the U.C.  No one had a student identification.  Ran them through an A.C.I.C.  One was from Henderson.  Gave him a court date per Telex.  Advised them to keep IDs on them.

March 3

   In the office issuing parking permits.

   Unlock a vehicle in the Science Center parking lot. 

   Received a call about a vehicle stuck on the speed bump in the Science Center parking lot.  Upon arrival discovered that the vehicle had run out of gas, and I helped her husband push it to a parking spot.

   Locked Harris Hall and noted that there was a large pool of water in front of the Coke machine.  Contacted another officer and requested they call maintenance. 

   The roof and east wall from the small hay barn at the riding arena area had been blown off from high winds form the storm.

March 4

   In the office issuing parking permits.

   In the office to take a theft report (see case file).

   Out at Auxiliary Training with another officer.

   Out at the Weevil Run apartments at the request of the Public Safety student worker.

March 5

   Assist another officer with traffic stops.  Monitor four-ways.

   Received a call from a resident assistant at Family Housing in reference to a pilot light out.  Called the boiler operator about the problem.

 

March 6

   Working parking lots and traffic.  Traffic stop with UAM student for speeding on Lakeshore.  Issued UAM citation for the same.

  Call to escort non-student from the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center.  Subject using computers in an inappropriate manner.  Escorted student from library off campus.  Issued a verbal ban from campus with ban letter to follow.

   Received a call about a subject at Wesley Foundation that isn't supposed to be there.  Found subject and told the non-student that he was banned from campus.

   Received a call about the friend of the subject who was removed from campus.  Advised him to contact the chief if he had any questions or thought we did not have the right to remove the subject.

   Monitor traffic on campus.  Make traffic stops.  Assist another officer with shutting down the party at the U.C.

March 7

   In office issuing parking permits.

   Out on eight traffic stops with another officer.  UAM citations issued for all.

   Started to snow between 9 and 10 a.m.

   The chancellor announced the campus will close at 1 p.m. with the exception of essential personnel.

   Out at the library to investigate possible disturbance.  Nothing found.

   Out at Bankston Hall to open custodial closet for the resident assistant to obtain a mop to dry the floor due to the large amount of snow being tracked in.

   Received a call from Monticello dispatch, as well as from Jefferson Alarm company about an alarm at the Bookstore.  Found the alarm tripped.  Made entry to check for intruders with negative results.  Contacted the manager.

   Received a call from Monticello dispatch to check out alarm at Crackerbox South.  Everything is 10-4.  Suspect a power spike to have set the alarm off.

   Observed a truck in north Jeter Hall parking lot turning in a circle in the middle of the parking lot.  Advised him not to be doing that on campus.  Subjects departed campus.

   Snowing heavy at this time with roads still passable.  Some light traffic around campus with no incidents.

   Call from student who lost camera around back of the Babin Business Center in the snow.  Went to assist them in looking for it.  The snow is around six-to-eight inches deep, and we had no luck in locating the camera.

   Around 3 a.m. the temperature has reached 28 and the roads are starting to freeze over, making them slick in some spots where the snow has melted and refroze.  All roads are still passable at this time. 

   Monticello P.D. dropped off a subject at the maintenance shop early that morning for work and left him there.  I spoke with them and went by the shop and found the subject standing outside of the building.  He told me that he started walking to work, so he would not be late for work at 7 a.m. and was picked up by the Monticello P.D.  He did not have a key to shop yet, so I let him into the shop to keep warm.


March 8


   Roads are clear with the exception of patches of packed ice. 

   Out at Bankston Hall for two boosts and one unlock.  Observed that the top portion of a tree had broken and fallen near the fence in the field alongside University Drive.  Contacted the Agriculture Department and informed them of the possibility of fence damage.  They came out and checked, and found it to be OK to leave until Monday.

   All roads clear around afternoon.  Road grader cleared ice off Scogins and University drives.

   Received a call from a Horsfall Hall resident requesting information about a ticket on her account.  Upon investigation of her ticket, it appears the ticket was assigned to her erroneously.  Note left for the Public Safety secretary to investigate further.

   Traffic stop with non-student no Highway 425 and University Drive for speeding (69 in 50).  Issued a municipal citation for the same and took the subject to the CDF for a warrant out of Star City.  Assisted by another officer, who stood by the car while licensed driver arrived to pick up the other two subjects in the car.  Back on patrol.

   Traffic stop with UAM student on Scogin Drive for spinning tires and parking in handicap parking at Royer Hall.  Issued UAM citation for both.

   Traffic stop non-UAM subject for no stop at stop sign on Scogin and University drives.  Issued verbal warning for the same.

   Out at Drew Central after the Alpha Phi Alpha Step Show to unlock student's car.

   Out at Armory to assist Monticello P.D. with a large fight and to shut party down.

   Some light traffic around campus with no incidents.

March 9

  Received a call from Family Housing resident about theft of two bicycles (see case file).

  Received a call from a Bankston Hall resident about a breaking-and-entering and theft-of-property report (see case file).

   Out searching the campus for the two missing bicycles.

   Issued two UAM citations in the east parking lot beside the Memorial Classroom Building and Bookstore.

   Traffic stop with 356 MMX for failure to yield at four-way beside Agriculture building.  After a short discussion, issued a UAM ciation.

   Traffic stop on Scogins Drive for improper equipment.  Issued municipal warning for passenger headlight being out.

   Traffic stop with a UAM student for parking in a handicap parking space in front of Bankston Hall.  Issued a municipal ciation for the same.

   Out at Bankston Hall for a walk-through.  Found broken door loser on southeast exit door and door wide open.  Closed door.

   Out with another officer on traffic stop on Scogin Drive.  Out with same officer on another traffic stop on Scogin next to Fire Station 2.

   Out to Monticello P.D. to drop off citations.
