hosted their annual booksale to raise money for video equipment to
benefit the School of Arts and Humanities. |
Paperbacks sold for 25 cents, hardbacks for 50 cents and movies for $1. The proceeds benefit the School of Arts and Humanities.
“We use it to buy new equipment for the Arts and Humanities department, TV’s, VCR’s, DVD players,” said Heather Raley, a senior history major and president of Sigma Tau Delta. “If we make $200 we’re happy. Yesterday, it was about $150. Part of that comes from donations as well, from the students and from the professors.”
All of the items sold at the fund-raiser came from donations, which anyone can give.
“People can donate books year round. If they ever feel like cleaning out their library or something, we’ll take them all year long,” Raley said. “I personally donated all of my VHS, because I’m getting ready to move and I didn’t want to pack them all. I converted to DVD.”
Betty Hendricks, professor of English, stopped to buy a few books.
“I always do, and yesterday I got some cookies and I always give a few dollars,” Hendricks said. “I think it’s a wonderful endeavor and opportunity for students to browse and make discoveries.”
Hendricks said she was very pleased to find a book of philosophical thought for just 50 cents.
Many students stop to take advantage of the bargain and purchase books along with a variety of cookies for just 50 cents.
“I got a couple of books. I love to read. The prices are beyond reasonable,” said Alan Hobbs, a first-year history major.
Raley said members of Sigma Tau Delta rotate in about one-hour shifts to cover the fund-raiser.
“We’re getting smaller in numbers so people had to work more,” Raley said.
To donate books and movies for future fund-raisers, students should contact Sarah Bloom, assistant professor of English, or a member of Sigma Tau Delta.
