Police Log

April 4

   Out at maintenance to discuss water standing in roadways on Scogin Drive next to the football field and University Drive west of the Memorial Classroom Building.  Told that the drain lines were collapsed and that he could do nothing about the water.  This needs to be fixed somehow for student and staff safety.

   Rain has ended at this time with some water going down in areas, but the two areas mentioned earlier are still holding water.

   Call from cafeteria about a non-student who came in through the back door and entered the eating area.  Went to the John F. Gibson University Center and removed the non-student.  Told the subject that he could not be on campus any more because he is not a student, and issued a verbal ban and explained that he would be arrested if he comes back on campus without prior approval from the vice chancellor of Student Affairs.  I then escorted the subject office campus and reported the incident.

April 5

   Received a call from the Family Housing resident assistant about an apartment electrical system shorting out.  Contacted maintenance who checked into the situation and determined that the resident's computer was drawing too much power through the heavy-duty extension cord. 

   Out with Monticello Police Department lieutenant on stop of Drew Central High School student who left the prom without parental permission.

   Observed two pickup trucks with four male juveniles in the parking lot next to Weevil Pond.  Told them that they had to leave campus.  They complied.

April 6

   Out to unlock Band Hall for a student worker, and unlocked Art Complex for student.  Out to assist opening Willard Hall for staff.  Out at Harris Hall to assist staff with door on vehicle that would not lock.

   Light traffic on campus.  Traffic stop for non-functioning equipment (front-passenger headlight out).  Verbal warning to fix defective equipment.

April 7

   Monitor traffic.  Out issuing citations around the campus. Out at Public Safety Office to talk with a couple of subjects.  Issue citations.  Monitor four-ways. 

   Out with staff at Science Center needing to file a report (see incident report).

   Three traffic stop for running stop sign at Royer Hall.

   Patrolling all areas on campus.  Made four traffic stops.

April 8

   Out behind the Turner Neal Museum of Natural History for pepper spray practical with auxiliary class.

   Patrolling all areas of campus.  Traffic very light.

April 9  

   Traffic stop with UAM student for driving the wrong way on a one-way street.  Issued an UAM citation for the same.

   Out at Bankston Hall with Arkansas Department of Corrections for home visit with UAM student on parole.  Found pit bull puppy in the room.  The resident assistant wrote the subject up for a violation. 

   Out at Bankston Hall again with ADC for another home visit.  While in dorm, smelled marijuana coming from room.  No one was home.  They must have just left.

   Traffic stop with non-student for no tags on vehicle.  Issued verbal warning for the same after driver's license check. 

   Call about function in the Patio Cafe tonight that will be playing music outside.  Requested to make sure the group does not disturb any classes with the volume.  Made several passes around the area.

   Traffic stop for excessive speed.  Verbal warning given. 

   Monitoring traffic.  Traffic stop on University Drive for speeding (35 in a 20).  UAM citation issued.  Issued UAM citation to vehicles for being backed in.  Issued another UAM citation for being backed in beside Bankston Hall.

   Light rain fell for about 10 minutes then ceased.  Winds of approximately 25 miles per hour throughout the night.

   Unlock at the MCB.

   Out to work accident at the University Apartments. 

   Out to assist Monticello P.D. with accident at Drew Central.

   Out at Spring Fling Crawfish Boil to monitor traffic. 

   Out at Public Safety Office to take terroristic threatening complaint from student.

   Light traffic about campus.  Out with another officer for a vehicle listed on our boot list.  The decision was made not to boot the vehicle based on the fact that it now has a valid parking permit.

   Working radar.  Traffic stop on University Drive for speeding (50 in 35).  Verbal warning issued.

   Received a call from the Maxwell Hall resident assistant about a fire alarm at the University A Apartments.  Checked the alarm and found that a second floor apartment was the cause.  Checked the apartment and found the alarm erroneous.  With the RA present, I reset the alarm.

   Received a call from the Horsfall Hall RA stating that a student was experiencing severe back pain and requested an ambulance.  The student was transported to the Drew Memorial Hospital emergency room and was discharged later.
