Art students entered pieces of their artwork, and a jury of students from the Art Club and art majors nominated which pieces went into the show. Most of the students who entered pieces entered more than one.
The jury of students selected the strongest pieces for the area and work that would fill the space available. The jury picked the work, prepared the pieces for hanging or placement, took down the old artwork and scheduled displaying the new work.
The students who submitted artwork this year included: Josh Gibson, Belinda Jeffers, Keili Carpenter, Laretta Daniels, Nicole Ferguson, Rusty Nail, Hector Castillo, Mitch Gathings, Jeffery Trotter, Crisian Davis, Brandy Forrest and Mandy Rambo.
The artwork showed different ideas and concepts: Trotter painted two paintings of Gandhi; Rambo painted an oil painting of flowers in a vase; Carpenter drew a picture of Picasso using charcoal; Gathings drew two drawings Dega Dancers using conte and ink.
Viewers may also look at handcrafted ceramic jugs made by Gibson and Forrest's creation of a strawberry crepe in earthenware in the style of Funk Art.
The work will remain on display in Administration Building until next year. Many of the pieces are for sale, and the show offers a variety of mediums and artistic styles to choose from.
The work displayed used different mediums, including: earthenware, ceramic, oil, oil on canvas, oil on wood, conte and ink, charcoal, India ink, graphite, ball point pen, Sharpie, and others.
“(The show) reflected some of the strongest work produced this year,” Tom Richard, professor of art, said.
Juanita Webb provided food and the Office of Advancement provided chilled Weevil Water for the event.
“We were so glad to do it,” Carrie Ashcraft, director of Alumni Affairs, said.
Katherine Berry, vice chancellor for Advancement,
hosted the event.
