Alpha Sigma Tau plans to host the first Big Man on Campus pageant Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Drew Central Auditorium.

A male beauty pageant for campus organization members, “Big Man on Campus” showcases four categories the men participate in including:

  • Evening Wear (Pimp Suit/ Sports Jacket/ Church Attire)
  • Swimsuit
  • Talent
  • Athletic Wear

With around 10 entries, Seniors Ron and Don Merriweather paid the $15 entry fee per person, but plan to compete together as one person, representing Phi Beta Sigma.  Members of Phi Beta Sigma, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Sigma Tau Gamma and the Forestry Club plan to participate, as well as others from various campus organizations.

AST President Sandy Herring said, “Michael Reynolds II, the resident director of Bankston Hall, is working on his outfit.  I think he’s working hard to look real nice.”

One entrant asked permission to wear floats for the swimsuit category, while another requested permission to wear sunscreen on his nose.

Alpha Sigma Tau will sponsor Bobby Glaze who plans on performing a dance as his talent.

“The entrant for TKE plans on performing a cheerleader stunt for the talent competition,” Herring added.

Previously planned to occur before Homecoming, AST experienced difficulty in preparing the event in time for its first debut. Herring said AST hoped the “Big Man on Campus”  would ride in a car during the homecoming parade this year.

For entertainment during judging, Herring asked Alpha Phi Alpha and the Phi Beta Sigma to step.

Due Nov. 17, entries consist of a questionnaire the entrant must complete along with a $15 per person entry fee. Members of AST plan to take up entry forms at different locations around campus.
