The Student Government Association met Jan. 23 in the University Center House Room to discuss extended business hours for computer use and food services, along with other upcoming events.
SGA President Michael Thomas opened the meeting with information concerning students finding difficulty in using computers in the various labs on campus due to their conflict with computer lab hours. Thomas announced Babin Business Center's computer lab extended its hours, now open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday.
"The Writing Center also has extended its hours to include weekends," Thomas said.
Thomas added how the Patio Cafe also extended their hours until 8 p.m. and the cafeteria remains open until 1:30 p.m. on weekends.
Thomas encouraged students to attend the Assembly meetings explaining how last semester at the final Assembly meeting they talked about the possibility of changing a drop day to a drop week. Many professors disagreed since commencement dates remain set.
"We started on Wednesday, so we would have to go a whole another week causing commencement to be pushed back. If someone had a night class, then they would have to take the final the following morning," Thomas added.
Thomas explained about the importance of attending Assembly meetings in order to keep informed on what money SGA has and learn information concerning cutbacks due to financial issues. Thomas added how two faculty member's positions, one retired and one deceased, remains unfilled due to cutbacks.
SGA discussed the Student Activities Board supporting UAM's baseball team by supplying shirts to their upcoming Parent's Day held at the final game.
Other important dates mentioned during the SGA meeting include a blood drive coming up Jan. 29 and an informational meeting Feb. 2 entitled "Running a Meeting for Dummies."
All
students are welcomed and encouraged to attend SGA meetings. SGA meetings take place every other Thursday of the month at 12:45 p.m. in the University Center House Room.
