| "John Hancock" - Errin James, a junior political science major, signs his name on the constitution. The conference signed and passed the proposed constitution in its meeting last Thursday. |
According to Zack Tucker, a sophomore political science major and chair for the conference, the Student Senate will vote on the constitution Wednesday, then it will go to SGA President Michael Thomas who will have 10 days to pass or veto the constitution. If Thomas passes it, the constitution will be voted on by the students in a general election set for March 23, 24 and 26. If Thomas does not pass it, the senate will have a chance to override the veto. After the special election, the constitution will go on to the Assembly and be voted on April 7, then to the Board of Trustees for approval at its meeting on campus April 17.
“This is a great feat for all students,” Tucker said.
Tucker said as soon as the conference adjourned, the body would be dissolved. He thanked all of the members for their hard work and dedication to rewriting the SGA constitution.
“I am proud you accepted your position for the conference,” Tucker said. “I commend you for your work and effort.”
He also said the document will create a new government in keeping with the same spirit and will give students even more of a chance to have a voice.
The conference unanimously selected Tucker to act as reporter for the conference to give a full report to the Student Senate about the constitution.
