Phi Beta Lambda met to discuss fund raising, membership and recruitment Feb. 26.

They discussed several fund-raising options to raise money to attend conferences and competitions. They talked about selling chances to win a gift basket, $50 Wal-Mart/gas cards and selling candy. Students also brought up ideas for other types of gifts basket and other ideas.

President Britta Halliday and Vice President Kelly Freeman volunteered to create the basket. Dennis Patterson, associate professor of Management and adviser, will notify members when to collect the chance slips. Each member will receive about 30 chances to sell.

Patterson talked about recruiting new members and asked members to try and bring in at least one to two new members. PBL allows students of any major to join, but mainly focuses on business. Patterson said the reason for recruiting as much as possible allows the organization to grow for the fall semester, since many of the members are seniors.

“We certainly need to recruit as much as we can,” Patterson said.

PBL hosts speakers in the area of business during the fall semester and sponsors events in the areas of business or information systems.

The Phi Beta Lambda and the national organization, the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, support and raise money for the March of Dimes along with the March of Babies.

According to the national organization's Web site, the PBL gives members the opportunity to learn travel and grow as a business professional. It gives members the opportunity to gain skills employers look for and prepare them for the real world after college.

   The officers for PBL comprise:

  • Britta Halliday for president
  • Kelly Freeman for vice president
  • Lauren Robinson for secretary
  • Teremie Lafayette as treasurer
  • Marqus Lassiter as parliamentarian

The PBL plans to meet again March 24, April 7 and April 28, location will be announced later.

For more information about PBL go the FBLA-PBL Web site or for information about becoming a member contact Patterson at pattersonj@uamont.edu.
