Sigma Tau Delta plans to honor the legendary Dr. Seuss on his birthday, Monday, March 2.

The organization will hold, “Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss,” a bake sale and read-in at the John F. Gibson University Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“(We) decided to do this bake sale to honor Dr. Seuss because of his dedication to improving literacy through children's books,” said Susan Harmon, Sigma Tau Delta secretary.

To further honor the writer, portions of his works will be read during the accompanying read-in.

According to Ruth Gordon, Sigma Tau Delta president, the read-in invites faculty members of the English department and members of Sigma Tau Delta to read selections from Dr. Seuss’s classic books.

Some of the books featured include “Are You My Mother?,” “Green Eggs and Ham” and “The Cat in the Hat.” The books will be read in both English and Spanish.

Gordon said students can eat a snack, relax and even bring their pillows as they listen to their favorite faculty member and fellow students read Dr. Seuss stories.

For more information on the bake sale and read-in, please contact Gordon at RXG3504@uamont.edu.
