| Voting - Ron Forte, a sophomore psychology major, votes for Omega Psi Phi's $3,500 monetary request for a concert. SAB meets every Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. in the University Center House Room. |
Frederick Washington, representative for Omega Psi Phi, said they previously requested $12,000, but Clay Brown, vice chancellor of Student Affairs, asked them to find a cheaper activity.
"We came together and decided to do a concert, which is a whole lot cheaper, so all we are asking for is $3,500," Washington said.
SAB President Michael Reynolds II said Brown denied the $12,000 for comedians because of time and the amount of money.
"With this, I think it is real good because of the time. We have $4,384.50 and if you take that out, we will have $784.50, but we are getting money back from the Wellness Fair," Reynolds said.
Washington said the musicians for the concert consists of rapper Big Tuck and three other acts.
SAB approved the monetary request for $3,500 for Omega Psi Phi to hold a concert featuring Big Tuck.
At the last SAB meeting held Feb. 28, Jonathan Greenlee, representative for the Greek Council, requested $100 for trophies for "Fraternity of the Year" and "Sorority of the Year." SAB tabled the vote due to insufficient information.
"The time for the trophies is coming up soon and the way it is going to work is you approve $100 for these trophies. We will go get nice trophies and whatever is left over will go back to the SAB," Greenlee said.
Reynolds said the SAB tabled voting at its last meeting because SAB needed to know the price of each trophy.
"Mike and I, we go up to Signs all of the time and $100?" Reynolds asked.
Greenlee said Mindy Holcomb, director of Student Programs and Activities, makes the decisions. Reynolds said Greenlee neglected to give the requested information.
"Here's the deal, to get that information, (Greek Council) met last month and we will meet next month. By the time we meet next time, it will be right at or past time," Greenlee said.
Greenlee said the trophies would be small, but nice.
"Are we going to believe that Greek organizations don't have money to put in the bucket for these trophies?" asked Angelia Buford, a senior social work major.
SAB approved a maximum of $100 for the Greek Council to buy trophies.
Zack Tucker, a political science major, asked Reynolds for the SAB to work with the senate in a committee to commemorate the elections for officers in the spring.
"The committee would consist of five members from the senate and five members from SAB. This joint committee would plan some sort of activity or event to commemorate the execution of the officers elected in the 2009 elections," Tucker said.
SAB accepted the invitation to join the senate in a joint committee.
Student Government Association President Michael Thomas said elections for SGA and executive board offices will take place April 14.
"Speculation has it that you have to attend at least five meetings to run for office. That is from SAB, SGA and Senate, so we need to sign a sign-in sheet," Thomas said.
Tucker said the deadline for filing for office remains March 27.
The next SAB meeting will take place Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. in the House Room. For more information about SAB, contact Mindy Holcomb, director of Student Programs and Activities, at 460-1396 or Holcomb@uamont.edu.Have a comment? Please e-mail us.
