Student Government Association President Michael Thomas called a special session for the Student Senate Wednesday, March 25. President Pro-tempore Sandy Herring said the senate canceled its regular meeting since it had no business to discuss.

At the opening of the meeting, Thomas said he still had the authority to call a special meeting under the current constitution. Sen. Zack Tucker, a sophomore political science major, said Thomas referred to a constitutional clause which gave the SGA President authority of call a meeting to order.

"In the Fall semester, an administrative decision was made to revoke the Presidents ability to chair the Senate, allowing only the Senate President Pro-tempore authority to preside over the Senate," Tucker said.

Thomas said he called the meeting to thank the senators for helping him complete his vision of revitalizing the senate and revising the constitution.

During the meeting, Thomas discussed issues he said would be on the agenda for the SGA meeting March 26. He said he would try to get the hours for the Fred J. Taylor Library and Technology Center and Java City extended for the week before and the week of final exams. He also discussed getting old computers from Internet Technology and putting them in the University Center for student use. He said students are being asked to leave computer labs for using Facebook. Thomas ended the meeting by talking about the need for a "hang-out" spot for students, like a student union.

The only two senators present were John Fryer and Hiram Sumlin. SGA Treasurer Joseph Jordan and a few other students also attended the meeting.
