A cut above - Senior forester Brad Sears took first place to win the Stihl Timbersports Southeastern  Collegiate Championship proving that UAM is a cut above the rest.

On an individual basis senior forestry and wildlife management major Brad Sears bested 14 other competitors to win the Stihl Timbersports Southeastern Collegiate title. Sears will advance to the National Collegiate Championship in Columbus, Ga. June 19-21.

Sears has been competing with the UAM team at conclave for the last four years, logging hundreds of hours of practice time to win his title.

Sears competed in four different disciplines in Huntsville to win the title: underhand chop, standing-block chop, stock saw and single buck.

“I really wasn’t concerned with winning,” said Sears. “I just told myself that if I finished in the top in each event that I would have a chance. All I really wanted was a chance.”

Sears will graduate in May with a degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management, and plans to continue competing after college.

“I would love to. In fact, if I win in June I will get a three year contract with Stihl to compete professionally,” Sears said.
