The Student Senate approved a resolution to formally commend the organizers of the Centennial Convocation in a short regular meeting Wednesday.

Resolution seven, written by Sen. Zack Tucker, a sophomore political science major, will allow the senate to present a certificate to the organizers of the celebration. Sen. Yvonne Hinshaw, a junior political science major, gave the authorship speech for Tucker.

“The celebration went over wonderfully,” Hinshaw said. “We want to formally thank the people that made this happen.”

She said she hoped the certificate could be included in the time capsule that will be buried at the conclusion of the centennial celebration Sept. 14, 2010.

Sen. Ronald Forte, a sophomore psychology major, said he thought everyone should give a great thank you to the people involved in organizing the event. The resolution passed unanimously.

The senate also passed resolution eight to approve the appointed members to the joint inaugural events committee with the Student Activities Board. President Pro-tempore Sandy Herring appointed senators Angelia Buford, Jonathan Greenlee, Troy Dillard, Jimmy Spurlin and Tucker. Herring said senators appointed to the committee could not be running for an office in the upcoming general election April 13 – 15.

The senate will hold its next regular meeting Wednesday, April 15.
