| 'Eggs-ellent' - Junior business administration major Nika Najafova looks at the student artwork at the 'Eggs-ibition.' Art classes used eggs as inspiration for the art to use in its first exhibition. |
The University of Arkansas-Monticello Art Club held an “Eggs-abition” on Friday, April 24. The club transformed Jeter Hall Room 101 into an art gallery.
Using eggs as the subject, art classes began experimenting with different papers and eventually came together and decided to have their first art exhibition.
Students from painting, drawing and ceramic classes joined the art club and contributed drawings of eggs as well as ceramic egg artwork, with hopes of selling their work. The prices of the art ranged from five to 15 dollars.
Senior Keili White said, “Putting our art on display gives others a chance to see what we have been doing in class.”
White also said the money they earned would go into the art club which gives the students a chance to take trips to museums and seminars.
“Seeing others' art work encourages our work,” she said.
Junior Nika Najafova said she found out about the “Eggs-abition” through email and a friend. She did not know of any schools who displayed its students' artwork in the form of an exhibition and thought it was a great idea.
In the past, the students’ placed art in the Office of Advancement and would have end-of-the-year art sales. Professors and art students said they hoped to transform Room 101 into a permanent art gallery.
Senior Jennifer Neubauer, the “Eggs-abition” curator, said she thought they had a great turnout with it being the first exhibition. She said she felt it was successful enough to continue with it next semester.
The next exhibition’s theme will be faces and fingers. Art students encourage everyone to come and support their work and buy a piece of art.
