Annual Sigma Tau Delta Book Sale - Rebecca Friend, a member of the English honor society, arranges books at the sale. Sigma Tau Delta held the sale April 22-23.

University of Arkansas-Monticello English honor society Sigma Tau Delta held its annual book sale April 22-23 in the Memorial Classroom Building, at which it sold more than just books.

The society accepted donations from students through April 17. Items donated included books, CDs, DVDs, software, video tapes and other items such as neckties.

Sigma Tau Delta Treasurer John Ragsdale said the sale serves two purposes: The ability to donate items gave students the opportunity to get rid of unwanted items before the end of the semester and it would appeal to those looking for a bargain.

He also said the goal was to make items as affordable as possible for those short on cash.

Members of the society sold the items during the two-day sale.

“We seem to be doing pretty well,” Rebecca Friend said on Wednesday, April 22.

After the sale ended, Sarah Bloom, sponsor for Sigma Tau Delta, counted the money.

According to her, the sale netted over $160. She thanked everyone for the support.

“The money will go toward a purchase to benefit the English department at UAM,” Bloom said. “In the past, the society has purchased audio-visual equipment.  This time, (we) will consider another special gift to the department.”
