The Mid-American Science Museum in Hot Springs offers a $1,500 scholarship for the 09-10 academic year. Applicants must:

Complete an application by May 31;

Be a college junior or senior majoring in a science discipline, including agriculture, animal sciences, science, astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, forest resources, etc;

Drew Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is offering a scholarship opportunity for a student interested in pursuing studies in nursing or any medical field for the 09-10 academic year. Applications are available in the Office of Admissions on the first floor of Harris Hall.

Saline County Executive Association has established a $1,000 scholarship ($500 fall and spring terms) for the purpose of assisting students entering their sophomore, junior or senior cellege year or graduate program in higher education through one of Arkansas's private or public colleges, universities or approved vocational school or community colleges. Criteria for application and submission:
- Be a resident of Saline County or graduate of Saline County High School or equivalent;
- Completed 24 or more hours in higher education with a minimum of 2.50 grade point average;
- Submit a recent photograph with completed application;
- Submit a spring transcript;
- Submit a 100 word or less essay concerning the impact this scholarship will have on a future educational opportunity;
- Submit two letters of recommendations, with preference from an instructor and a community leader.
Deadline to submit all materials is June 1.
Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., and the National Garden Clubs, Inc., offer scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year. Application and furthere details can be found on the website. Drew County Retired Teachers Association has announced a $1,000 scholarship, payable in the amount of $500 for the fall 2009 term and $500 for the spring 2010 term (pending review of grade point and hours earned). Criteria include:
- Must be a graduate of Monticello or Drew Central High School.
- Must have accumulated 30 or more college credit hours and be in good academic standing.
- Must be an education major.
- Must have financial need.

American Institute of CPAs announces their 2009-10 scholarships. Included are:
- AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship - a joint program with Accountemps, awarding five $2,500 scholarship to students pursuing a degree in accounting, finance or information systems.
- John L. Carey Scholarship - $5,000 scholarships for a minimum of 10 liberal arts or other non-business related degree holders preparing to enter a graduate accounting program.
- AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students - financial awards of up to $5,000 for undergraduate and graduate minority accounting students.
- AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students - up to $12,000 for nearly 20 full-time minority doctoral students to increase the number of accounting educators who are also CPAs.

Dr. Jim Roiger, chair of the Division of Computer Information Systems at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, recently created an endowed scholarship to honor his parents. The Raymond O. and Loretta J. Roiger Chi Iota Sigma Scholarship will be presented to students in Chi Iota Sigma, the student organization for computer information systems majors and minors.
High school seniors who have participated for at least two years in the Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) initiative at their high school are eligible to apply for the EAST Scholarship at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Applicants should:
- Submit applications by the priority deadline of March 1 for consideration
- Have a minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT
- Have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0
- Have two letters of reference regarding EAST service and performance.
The scholarship will cover tuition for 15 semester hours, excluding summer terms, and is renewable by maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on 12 semester hours and by providing 10 hours per week of voluntary assistance in either the UAM Information Technology Office or the Spatial Analysis Laboratory. Applications for the scholarship are being sent to high schools for their distribution and are available by contacting the UAM Office of Adminisstions at (870) 460-1026.

School of Forest Resources
Instructor of Surveying (Spatial Information Systems Program)
The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) (www.uamont.edu/jobs) School of Forest Resources is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Spatial Information Systems (SIS). The faculty member will teach and conduct outreach programs in the Spatial Information Systems program. The successful candidate will be hired at the instructor rank (baccalaureate’s or master’s degree required).
The SIS program offers a B.S. degree in Spatial Information Systems with a surveying or GIS option as well as an A.S. degree in land surveying. The program is housed in the School of Forest Resources and consists of five faculty. The School of Forest Resources has a progressive GIS/Remote Sensing research laboratory, the Spatial Analysis Laboratory (SAL, http://sal.uamont.edu). Arkansas, known as “The Natural State”, features approximately 18 million acres of forests, with about 7 million acres of upland hardwood forests, about 3 million acres of mixed pine-hardwood forests, about 3 million acres of bottomland hardwood forests, and about 5 million acres of pine forests (plantation and natural combined). The School of Forest Resources, located in the rural setting of southeast Arkansas, is home to undergraduate programs in forestry, wildlife management, spatial information systems, and land surveying, and an M.S. level graduate program.
Responsibilities: Duties include teaching courses in surveying, such as Boundary Surveying, Plane Surveying, Cartography, Route and Construction Surveying, Mapping Law, GPS, and conducting outreach and demonstration programs to a broad constituent base. Specific courses taught depend on the expertise of the successful candidate. The position provides an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in the development of a new, high-technology academic program with modern, state-of-the-art computer facilities. The School uses Topcon and Trimble Surveying equipment in the classroom.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a degree(s) in the Spatial Information related sciences (surveying, geography, geology, geodesy, computer science, engineering, forestry, etc.) and be eligible to obtain a surveyor’s license in Arkansas or hold a Land Surveyor’s license in Arkansas. Experience in land surveying is required.

The Residence Life Graduate Assistant is a staff member responsible for supporting the Director of Residence Life in providing comprehensive leadership and management to an assigned area of housing. Graduate Assistants must show a commitment to student learning and assist campus residents in their total development.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Managing the operations, programming, and services for their assigned hall.
· Selecting, supervising, and evaluating staff and student personnel.
· Responding in a positive manner to a wide variety of situations.
· Rotating on a 24 hour on-call duty calendar.
Compensation package includes:

Assistant Director of Education Renewal Zone
The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) (www.uamont.edu/jobs) is seeking applicants for an individual to serve as Assistant Director of Education Renewal Zone (ERZ) Partnership Office. This office will assist in providing meaningful, sustained school improvement for specified schools in Southeast Arkansas. This position is contingent upon availability of funds.
Responsibilities: The ERZ Partnership Assistant Director will maintain and disseminate to partnership schools and school districts a directory of campus resources that could be put in the service of schools through technical assistance or research; receive requests for technical assistance from schools and school districts; coordinate responses to those requests with the appropriate campus resources; serve as the liaison between the ERZ and the Arkansas State Department of Education Division of ERZ; represent and advocate on behalf of the ERZ partnership in appropriate campus and off-campus venues; facilitate the process for developing the ERZ strategic plan for each ERZ partnership in which the institution is the lead IHE partner; convene quarterly ERZ meetings; maintain record of ERZ meeting proceedings; and develop and submit to the Director the annual report of the ERZ activities. The ERZ Partnership Assistant Director is expected to have a working knowledge of higher education institutions and be able to bring together the resources of the institution across academic departments and divisions. It is further expected that the Assistant Director will be knowledgeable regarding public school operations, needs, and current reform movements. The Assistant Director is expected to spend at least fifty percent (50%) of his or her time in the schools and school districts that are a part of the ERZ partnership and to facilitate strong linkages between the districts and schools and the institutions.
Qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a master’s degree in education or a related field. A minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience including managing grants, writing professional reports, presenting technical reports, showing initiative and problem solving skills; knowledge of state and national standards and best practices that impact support of overall school improvement is preferred. Teaching and/or administrative experience in secondary and higher education is preferred.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Chemistry

UAM, one of the eleven campuses of the University of Arkansas System, is located in southeastern Arkansas in the beautiful timberlands, rich in outdoor recreation activities, and approximately 100 miles south of Little Rock. UAM is a comprehensive, residential, and commuter undergraduate institution also offering selected master’s degree programs.
The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences has twenty-two faculty and offers majors in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Natural Science as well as minors in these areas and in Physics. The School also has pre-professional programs in medicine, pharmacy, allied health, and engineering. The School has been very active in pre-service and in-service educational programs and has an excellent record of preparing students for professional and graduate schools.
Responsibilities: Duties include teaching freshman chemistry courses and upper level courses in the applicant’s area of expertise. The ability to teach physics courses or upper level inorganic chemistry is a plus. Upward Bound Program
The Upward Bound Program (www.uamont.edu/jobs), is a federally-funded program serving ten target schools in Southeast Arkansas, designed to assist economically disadvantaged students who aspire to achieve a post-secondary education. The following personnel are needed for the summer residential program.
Residence Hall Supervisor: Duties include living in residence halls and supervision of all residence hall activities, orientation and training of peer counselors, and coordination of all evening and weekend activities. Qualifications include a baccalaureate degree in counseling (preferred) or within one semester of graduation and prior residence hall supervisory experience as a resident assistant or higher. The position starts May 27, 2009 and ends July 12, 2009. Salary: up to $ 2,000.
Tutor/Counselor: Duties include living in the residence hall and providing supervision of activities for a group of high school students during the six-week summer residential program; plan recreational activities/programs; provide tutoring in high school subjects; keep accurate records of student contacts; attend weekly staff meetings; file weekly counseling activity/program reports, and be on call in the residence hall. The position starts May 27, 2009 and ends July 12, 2009. Salary: up to $1,400.
Tutor/Coordinator: Duties include living in the residence hall and providing supervision of activities for a group of high school students during the six-week summer residential program; plan recreational activities/programs; provide tutoring in high school subjects; keep accurate records of student contacts; attend weekly staff meetings; file weekly counseling activity/program reports; and be on call in the residence hall. One year experience working with the Upward Bound Program. The position starts May 27, 2009 and ends July 12, 2009. Salary: up to $1,600.
Bridge Mentor: Duties include meeting with a small group of Bridge students four hours per day, Monday - Friday. Two hours must be 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.; other two can be scheduled at the convenience of the Mentor and the Bridge student. Plan and implement programs and activities that will assist the participants in making a smooth transition from high school to college. Qualifications: Strong Math/English skills preferred; 20 hours per week. The position starts from June 2, 2009 and ends July 12, 2009. Salary: up to $1,000.
Medical Coordinator: Duties include administering to the health needs of the students, arranging student appointments with medical providers, maintaining student health and insurance files, and coordinating health and wellness education components. LPN certification is required. The position starts May 27, 2009 and ends July 12, 2009. Salary: up to $2,500.
Activities Coordinator: Duties include planning physical activities for the students, supervising all afternoon activities and keeping accurate records on each student. The position starts May 28, 2009 and ends July 2, 2009. Salary: up to $1000.
Teachers: A baccalaureate degree and certification required in the areas of instruction, with a minimum of one year experience and the ability to access academic needs and to monitor and evaluate student’s academic progress. English: Assess and instruct students in language arts, literature, composition, and comprehension. Mathematics: Assess students’ academic needs and plan instructional activities for algebra I, algebra II, and advanced mathematics. Science: Assess and instruct students in physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics and include related laboratory experiences. Salary: up to $2,500.
Part Time Teachers
Drama, Music Appreciation, Technology, and Spanish: Assess students’ academic needs and plan instructional activities. Position starts June 1, 2009 and ends July 12, 2009. Salary: up to $1,500.00.
CDL Driver
Minimum requirements include high school graduate, CDL license, at least 21 years old, have a safe and clean driving record (no moving traffic violations or accident, driving record will be verified through Department of Public Safety), and be able to safely operate vehicles requiring a CDL License on a pre-assigned route. CDL drivers work Friday evenings and Sunday evenings only. Salary: $10.00 per hour.
Van Driver
Minimum requirements include high school graduate, at least 18 years old, have a clean driving record (no moving traffic violations or accidents, driving record will be verified through Department of Public Safety), and be able to safely operate a fifteen-passenger van on a pre-assigned route. Van drivers work Friday evenings and Sunday evenings only. Salary: $7.00 per hour.

Candidates should have a proven record of progressive, alumni-based fundraising, success utilizing best practices in annual giving, major gift cultivation, donor relations, and stewardship. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: a minimum of three years experience in a higher education setting with at least two years in direct fundraising; experience in major gift solicitation preferred; goal-oriented; commitment to shaping and implementing a development program; and increasing the organization’s capacity for effective fund raising and sustainable alumni relations. Educational Opportunities
UAM Summer 2009 Canadian Rockies Field Course is scheduled for June 14 - 23. UAM will offer several field courses for credit during a ten-day trip to the Canadiam Rockies during the first summer term of 2009. Cost is $1,495 plus tuition ($342 per three-hour undergraduate course, $495 per three-hour graduate course) and airfare to Seattle, AR. The price covers ground transportation, loding, meals allowance, and entry fees. Students must have a current, valid passport to participate. The Zeta Chapter of Alpha Chi Honor Society announces the winners in the Centennial Essay Contest: first place - Latoya Webb; second place - Amanda Kelley; and third place - Lindsey Wall. The local chapter funded the prizes with a grant from Alpha Chi Nationals and with matching funds from Chancellor Lassiter.
The UAM Rodeo Team qualified for the National Finals held this summer. Bart Brunson will be competing in calf roping and team roping. Casey Greer will compete in steer wrestling and Stephanie Zakrzewski will compete in break-away roping.

Arkansas Law states that all students who were foreign born are subject to the requirements of the Arkansas Department of Health Tuberculosis Screening Program for Foreign Born University and College Students. In order to comply with these regulations, all students born outside the U.S. must begin by completing a Tuberculin Skin Testing Database form as soon as possible. You may obtain this form from Student Health Services. Upon completion of this form, you will receive further information and instructions.
Official Degree Audit - If you are seeking a
baccalaureate degree and have earned between 60 and 90 hours, you
should meet with your academic adviser to complete a signed degree
audit for your chosen major (and minor if applicable and emphasis if
applicable). Once you reach the 90-hour point, you will be unable
to register for classes until a signed audit is on file in the
Registrar’s Office. If you’d like to know the status of your degree
audit (whether one is on file or not), please contact Carol Dolberry at
(870) 460-1235 or stop by the Registrar’s Office, located on the first
floor of Harris Hall.
Nursing students need to see their faculty adviser to
plan their schedule. Appointments should be made in advance to
facilitate questions or any concerns that you may have. Faculty have
sign-up appointment sheets on their office doors. The Division
Secretary will assist you in making appointments, however you must see
your faculty adviser for course advisement and input. Most faculty are
available for Monday, Tuesday and Friday. For more information, contact

Praxis Test-takers - The Educational Testing Service
announced Praxis test-takers will now only be required to pay a
registration fee one time during a testing year. For more information,
please visit the Praxis
Web site.
To receive any mailed materials, your permanent
mailing address must be accurate. If you’ve had a change in
address, take a moment to come by the Registrar’s Office (Harris Hall,
first floor) or the Student Services Office at Crossett or McGehee, or
call (870) 460-1034 to complete a “Change in Student Data”
form. This form should also be completed if you’ve had a change in
your name, local address or telephone number. There is no charge
for making a change in your data. A photo ID is required when the
“Change in Student Data” form is submitted.

Grade Reports - As a reminder, the University of
Arkansas at Monticello no longer mails grade reports to all students at
the end of the term. For the convenience of students, grades and other
information can be accessed through Campus Connect. To access
Campus Connect, go to the UAM homepage, place the cursor
over Current Students to bring up the pull down menu. Click on Campus
Connect, click on Continue to Campus Connect Version 3, and enter your
studentid and pin. Any student who wishes to have a mailed grade report
must complete a request with the Registrar's Office prior to the last
day of final exams. The grade report request form is available on the
UAM homepage. To print the form,
go to www.uamont.edu, place the
cursor over Current Students, and click on Registrar. Click on
Registrar's Office Forms, click on Request for Grades to be Mailed,
enter the required information, print the form, and submit it to the
Registrar's Office. This form is also available in the Student Services
offices at Crossett and McGehee. For more information contact the
Registrar's Office at (870) 460-1034.
The Office of Finance and Administration keeps a
formal log of vending machine problems on the Monticello
campus. All drink or snack machine problems should be reported to
Sharon Bulloch at (870) 460-1023 or e-mail bulloch@uamont.edu. In addition to providing
the location, please indicate if the Coca Cola machine contains cans or
bottles when reporting problems.
