Teaching - Mary Stewart teaches students in her biology class. Stewart arrived at UAM in August.

Prior to coming to UAM, Stewart taught at North Dakota State University and Minnesota State Community and Technical College. Stewart’s overall teaching experience consists of 11 years.

She attended college at University of Nebraska-Kearney and grad school at Kansas State University.

When Stewart took an Intro to Biology class, she found that she loved the subject. From there, she took an Anatomy and Physiology class and thought about going into Speech Pathology, but decided to stick with biology later on.

In the classroom, Stewart says she tries taking an aspect of the lessons and tries to apply it to students’ lives.

“Stewart is experienced as a researcher and as a professor,” John Hunt, assistant professor biology said. “She is very enthusiastic.”

Even biology professors like to go outside the classroom and enjoy different things. Stewart said she likes to do things such as taking walks with her dogs, doing yoga, reading and traveling.

“My job becomes a labor of love. It becomes what I do and not just work,” Stewart said.

To contact Stewart, visit her during her office hours in the Math and Science Center in office B-14, Monday,Wednesday and Friday from 10-11 a.m. and Thursday 1-2 p.m. or by appointment. To contact her by phone call 460-1564 or e-mail at stewartm@uamont.edu.
