Taking Notes - IMA Secretary Amber Reaves takes notes during the organization's first meeting.  Discussion included community service projects, homecoming and fundraisers.

IMA discussed collecting General Mills Box Tops for Education, Campbell's soup and Nestle Water labels and Wal-Mart sacks for Grace Christian Academy.

“They receive money for each item they turn into the various companies,” president Ashley Lay said. “People will also be helping with recycling, which is good for the environment.”

The IMA also voted on giving a custodian in the Babin Business Center $50 to help with medical bills. The custodian previously helped the IMA raise money last year by catching students going in and out of the building. She noticed how people passing did not respond to members of the IMA when asked if they would like to donate a dollar and win a gas card purchased by the IMA by guessing how many jelly beans were in a jar.

“She helped us out,” Lay said. “I don’t see why we can’t help her out.”

Professor of Accounting Dexter Gulledge, Associate Professor of Accounting Ted Hammet,  and Instructor in the School of Business Becky Phillips work together to advise the IMA.

The group discussed sending care packages, cards and letters to soldiers selected from either anysoldier.com or through the National Guard Armory in Monticello.

IMA proposed an idea about hosting an Easter egg hunt for the Arkansas Baptist Home for Children in the spring.

Newly elected IMA Secretary Amber Reaves plans to represent the organization during homecoming, which led to a discussion about setting up a tailgating table on homecoming weekend.

Members also plan to make T-shirts to wear and sell. Members discussed different types of T-shirt designs and what colors would be suitable for both male and female students.

IMA meets at noon in room 305 of the Babin Business Center.
