| Dirty Times - Students enjoy hula hoop action during Mud Olympics. This year marked the 20th year of the annual event. |
Two decades of tradition continued with the annual Mud Olympics hosted by Intramurals and Student Health Sept. 11.
"There were more participants this year than last year," Director of Intramurals Julie Gentry said.
Returning and first-time students enjoyed the event and wished that it occurred more often.
"I will definitely do it again," junior Amanda Keithley said. "It's fun and entertaining."
The event allowed students the opportunity to play in mud and have some fun.
"I used to get in trouble for playing in the mud. Now I can win something for doing it," junior Nia Herron said. "Me and my team couldn't compete because my captain forgot to add guys to our team, so we have to wait till next year."
Some onlookers wished to be part of the event after witnessing the fun the students were having.
"I'm from Texas and this is something different," recreational graduated assistant Laura O'Bryan said. "I have been to five schools and this is the first school with this event. If I was a student I would do it."
Mud may not have driven everyone wild to play in, but many students enjoyed watching it.
"On the grill is for me, but I like watching it," alumni Shawn Wilson said. "It is a very good event, and I enjoy coming back and helping out with the barbecue."
Through mud, sweat and tears, Student Health and Intramurals continued to provide students with activities and memories they will not soon forget.
