available on DVD and Blu-ray disc in stores around the country. |
The movie opens with an update on each of the four main characters’ lives. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is living in Los Angeles with successful TV actor, Smith (Jason Lewis), but travels back to New York City frequently. Samantha has worked hard to stay faithful in her monogamous relationship, avoiding her sexually active neighbor, Dante (Gilles Marini).
Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) married love interest Steve (David Eigenberg), after getting pregnant. With Miranda’s job as a lawyer, her home and social life are suffering.
Charlotte (Kristin Davis) married Harry (Evan Handler). After repeatedly failing at trying to conceive, Charlotte and Harry adopt a daughter, Lily (Alexandra and Parker Fong).
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and on again, off again boyfriend, Big (Chris Noth), plan to move in together. After Carrie falls in love with a penthouse out of her price range, Big puts up the money to buy it. She voices her concerns to Big about selling her current apartment because she would not have any legal rights to the penthouse if they broke up. Big suggests the couple should get married.
The wedding planning takes a turn for the worst when the wedding gets “bigger than Big.” Miranda, who recently broke up with Steve after he cheated on her, is disillusioned with marriage. Miranda makes a comment to Big about how crazy marriage can be after a run-in with Steve at the rehearsal dinner. A freak out on the big day leaves Carrie alone at the altar and Big beaten with a bouquet.
The girls rally around Carrie and take her to Mexico on her honeymoon trip. Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte lift Carrie out of her deep depression.
Back in New York, Carrie moves on with life. She hires assistant Louise (Jennifer Hudson) to help Carrie move back into her old apartment. Louise takes care of everything for Carrie, while Carrie works on writing her new book. Louise comes to the big city looking for love. It's touching how Carrie takes Louise under her wing and helps her find her "true love."
Big tries to reconcile with Carrie, but she wants nothing to do with him. Carrie instructs Louise to make sure she never has to have contact with Big. Knowing Carrie might change her mind, Louise creates a way for Carrie to retrieve Big’s correspondence.
The other women continue to grow and change. Charlotte finally gets pregnant. Miranda, after an argument with Carrie, goes to marriage counseling with Steve. Samantha overeats to keep herself from cheating on Smith. She finally breaks up with him and moves back to New York City.
With no hope of reconcile, Big sells Carrie’s dream penthouse. On the day the locks will be changed, Carrie goes to retrieve a pair of shoes. Big had the same idea as Carrie. Both arrive at the same time to retrieve the shoes.
Will Big and Carrie finally end up together? Watch the DVD to find out.
The movie wrapped up any lose ends left by the TV series. This movie still has just as much shallow, (but fun) juicy gossip as the TV series. Some may argue "Sex and the City: The Movie" is nothing more than a bunch of older women gossiping about sex and getting drunk, but it's much more than that. No matter what happens, the girls always sick together and take care of each other, a rare quality to have in friends. The movie makes one realize just how important true friends can be.
This movie gets an A+. Get a group of your best girlfriends together to watch this
feel-good movie.
