Chi Iota Sigma Offers Book Stipends

Chi Iota Sigma offered the chance to receive a Book Stipend for officers and members during a meeting held Oct. 2.
CIS provides five $100 book stipends to members each semester when it has funds available. At least one of the stipends goes to a CIS officer and a random drawing of all eligible members will be used to choose the winners each semester.
The requirements to receive the stipend comprise:
- paying the annual dues of $10
- being a member
- attending at least two meetings
- having a 2.5 grade point average
- filling out the form
The form needs to be returned by the Nov. 6 meeting.
CIS plans to decorate a pumpkin for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest for Halloween and a spirit wall during Homecoming week Oct. 13. CIS talked about old designs and themes the group used in the past for Homecoming and the Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
Senior CIS Scholarship Officer DeAnna Moore suggested the theme “Pack the Tigers” for this year’s wall. Lynn Harris, instructor of Computer Information Systems and one of CIS’s sponsors, asked interested students to sign up to help with the spirit wall.
CIS plans to hold a member drive Oct. 29 - 30 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. to invite new students to join.
Senior CIS Vice President Antonio Williams commented on the growth of the CIS Club.
“I‘m excited to see new faces coming to the meeting and new members,” Williams said.
CIS also looked at and discussed a T-shirt design for the club. The design consisted of a computer circuit board with Chi Iota Sigma on the processor chip and UAM CIS Club on the back.
Students who attended the meeting also received a chance to win T-shirts, bags and a variety of prizes by a drawing.
Other business discussed included:
- Fall projects such as the fall Canned Food Drive, Nov. 13-17 and Angel Tree Kids.
- CIS Club T-shirts - design submissions will be due by Oct. 23
- fund-raisers
- food for next meeting
The next officers meeting will be held Oct. 30 and the next club meeting will be Nov. 6.
