Robert Williams, formerly UAM’s shipping and receiving clerk, spent 12 years in the military where he worked with supplies and transportation.
“It gave me the experience needed for controlling the motor pool,” Williams said.
His experience also takes responsibility for him earning the position.
According to Jim Hudgins, director of the Physical Plant, 11 applicants applied for the advertised position. The amount of qualifications helped to narrow the number down to six to be interviewed.
“His experience here and in the military made him more qualified than anyone else who applied,” Hudgins said.
At the warehouse, Williams controls everything that comes through campus and oversees the items in stock such as electrical supplies and janitorial products.
“It’s a little bit of everything,” Williams said.
On top of working in his new position, Williams also takes classes at the university. He lacks a few classes in order to complete his CIS major.
“It’s going well,” Williams said. “I’m used to working all day and going to school all night.”
Hudgins said Williams learned the administrative way things are done at UAM.
“I’m pleased with how he’s done,” Hudgins said of Williams’ work.
