"Open Arms" - The University of Arkansas welcomed Collin Raye in his appearance at the "Convoy" Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium Sept. 3. Raye's number one single "One Boy, One Girl" was written by 1989 UAM graduate Shay Smith.

Chancellor Addresses Recovery and Renovations

   Chancellor Jack Lassiter discussed his recovery as well as the accomplishments of the University of Arkansas at Monticello at the State of the University address Aug. 26.

   Lassiter suffered a stroke in June of this year and commended Monticello’s local hospital, Drew Memorial, for its medical expertise.



Assembly Discusses Constitution Revisions

  The University of Arkansas-Monticello Assembly discussed constitution revisions and a town increasing in popularity Aug. 19.

   Assembly Chairperson Marsha Clayton handed out a 15-page revision of the Assembly constitution and bylaws. Clayton said the goal of the revisions remains to bring the colleges of technology into the governance process and to eliminate previous redundancies and outdated terminology.

   No more smoke clouds nor pretending to gag because someone lit up beside me. You ask am I happy the campus is not only a smoke-free but tobacco free environment? I simply respond with a yes. On September 1, the University of Arkansas at Monticello began its journey of providing the UAM family with a healthier environment.

 

Proper Precautions to Prevent "Swine Flu"

    My  5-year-old daughter came home with a pamphlet her school passed out. The pamphlet gave information about the H1N1 flu, commonly known as the “swine flu.” After reading the information, I began to wonder if my school was taking the same precautionary methods; informing students of the necessary actions needed to prevent the spread of the new and very different influenza virus.

Familiar Face Joins Music Faculty

      With a shifting of positions in the University of Arkansas-Monticello Division of Music, a new, but familiar face joins the department.

   As Instructor of Music John Webb moved up to Assistant to the Dean, James Woolly arrived as a visiting assistant professor.

   Country artist Collin Raye performed at the Willis "Leslie" Convoy Cotton Boll Stadium Sept. 3 for a concert in celebration the University of Arkansas-Monticello’s Centennial.

UAM Opens Doors to New Practice Facility


   As a part of the “Campaign for Athletics,” the University of Arkansas at Monticello is currently in the process of moving into its newly completed indoor practice facility.

Defense Prevails in 27-3 Win Over UA-Pine Bluff


   The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team used a strong defensive performance to claim a 27-3 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and gain its first win of the 2009 season.
