The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Student Activities Board met to discuss prizes for upcoming events. Nov. 10.
The SAB discussed the Window Painting Contest scheduled for Nov. 23 and 24 and the Food Drive to be held Dec. 3. They decided they will give away gift cards with $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third for both activities.
For the Late Night Breakfast budget, Angelia Buford, senate clerk, made a motion for a $1,500 budget.
Everyone voted but Ronald Forte, SAB board member and Student Government Association vice president. Forte discussed with Buford the need for a larger budget.
“We don’t have football nor big shirt orders so let’s say $2,000 so we can do it big. We will be hunting for something to do in the spring,” Forte said.
Mindy Holcomb, director of Student Programs and Activities, said she will need a list for all the items he needs and they could include the television and microwave from last semester because no on claimed them.
Forte also said Holcomb said they could go over into next semester’s budget.
Forte suggested they table the issue and discuss it when all the board members are present. Tiffany Reed, secretary, said they couldn’t table it because everyone had voted but one person. Board Member Zack Tucker and Reed discussed the rules.
Yvonne Hinshaw, SAB Chairperson, said table it.
Katherine Shelby, treasurer, said they had $2,372.96 remaining in the budget.
Caleb Burger, a Creative Society member, said he wanted to have Mocha Madness on Dec. 3. He asked for up to $500, with $300 being skimming by, $400 medium and $500 fully done and lavish. The max SAB can give an organization is $300.
Forte asked if that amount would that pay for decorations. Burger said they needed to purchase gifts for the performers, coffee, cups and treats. He was informed he needed to talk with Steve Davis about a location as he has a 30-day policy. Buford said getting it done this semester would be difficult.
Forte suggested having Mocha Madness during Welcome Week, which would give them more time. Tucker said they will have another meeting on the Nov.24 and he would need to get a procedure form from Holcomb’s office.
Benton Gann, Ducks Unlimited member, presented his numbers to the Board about the “Gumbo Cook-Out” they wish to host in the spring. He said they need at least $300.
Forte suggested DU join Welcome Week.
By having the cook-out during Welcome Week, SAB’s name would be on it, which would allow DU more money to fund the event. The cook-out will be during Welcome Week Jan. 19. Hinshaw told Gann to schedule for 150 people and to change their numbers around. One gallon will feed eight people and the cost is $20 a gallon.
Johnathan Greenlee said, “Since that will be next semester it will go into next semester’s budget so they can put more towards Late Night Breakfast.
The next scheduled meeting is Nov. 24. The Board will vote on Late Night Breakfast and Mocha Madness.
