Senate Elects New Officers

   The senate elected new officers Thursday,  Nov. 12 in the University Center House Room.

   The nominations for officers, made at the last meeting held Oct. 29, included:

• Zack Tucker and Jonathan Greenlee for president pro-tempore

• Calvin Frierson and Anthony Boykin for secretary

• Hunter Gilliam and Zack Tucker for parliamentarian

  
   Also at the last meeting, Angelia Buford, senate clerk, received the nomination for her position and was reinstated as clerk. Senators Troy Dillard and Randy Moore announced their resignations.

   Tucker, senate president pro-tempore, said the election process would be done by secret ballot with a five minute recess to count the votes. After voting, Yvonne Hinshaw, Election Commissioner, and Mindy Holcomb, director of Student Programs and Activities, counted the votes.

   After the meeting re-adjourned, Buford announced the results, which included: Tucker re-elected as president pro-tempore, Boykin as secretary and Gilliam as parliamentarian.

   Buford also announced the number of votes for each officer. The votes counted included: Tucker with four votes to Greenlee with three, Boykin with five votes to Frierson's two and Gilliam received all seven votes.

   Tucker said the deadline to run for positions were Nov. 13. He said Holcomb told him no one at that time responded to her proposition to run for senate positions. He also said everyone present at the meeting needed to fill out information forms for their intent to run for office.

   Tucker said he intended to suggest to the Election Commissioner that, if all seats were uncontested,  everyone needed to be appointed by the president into the senate.

   The next SGA meeting plans to be held Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the University Center House Room.
