An On-Campus Day Care Would Benefit UAM

College pregnancy is an epidemic that will only continue to grow. There are many women at the University of Arkansas at Monticello who have children and need assistance with child care. Monticello has several day care centers but how convenient would it be if UAM had one of its own?

Many colleges have day care centers for faculty, staff, students and town people’s children to attend. Having a center at this university would help parents who attend UAM, faculty and staff with cost.

It would also make it easier for children’s' parents to get to work or school being that the daycare would be on campus. It would also be beneficial to students in the Education department. Supervised students could run the center giving them experience in the field, possibly offering their work as course hours. Parents would  rather have their kids to go to a day care provided by UAM because the day care staff wouldn’t be your average “run of the mill” people. They would be students who are attending the University and working towards their degree. I have worked at a day care before and we had people working there that I would not want my children around. Having a UAM day care could only influence parents to pull their kids out of other child care facilities and enroll them at the UAM day care.  Having a day care would promote good reliability between the town’s people and the University. The day care would also just make UAM look better as a whole. The money could be given to the Early Childhood Education program. This is an action that needs to be taken.
