The Student Government Association and Senate held their last meeting in the House Room Dec. 3.
The SGA and Senate held a short meeting due to the hustle and bustle of the students in the Green Room preparing for the Canned Tree contest. Several members missed the meeting.
They called to order three pieces of legislation. They want to campus to apply for “Campus USA,” an Arbor Day Program, which will take place next semester.
The second legislation introduced urged the School of Education to start having the teaching degrees certified in order to teach high schools.
The third piece of legislation asked the Department of Arts and Humanities to include theater track programs and Speech and Communication courses to be taught in the near future.
They reminded the attendees about students; Micah Bateman, Leonard Polk, and Nikki Norrell will become new senators to the Student Government Association Board by next semester. They voted the new senators in during the previous Student Government Association meeting.
After discussing business, Angelia Buford, clerk for the Student Government Association, announced she will be stepping down from her position. Due to her internship with social work, she will not have the time in the future to make it to Student Government meetings. She will also be giving up her position on the Student Activities Board, but she will still be involved with the campus Supreme Court.
Buford encouraged the students in attendance.
“Continue to participate and bring your ideas on how you would like to see the campus approve,” Buford said. “We [the Student Government members] should hold ourselves as an example and continue to be role models to the student body.”
The next Student Government meeting will be held Jan. 28 at 12:40 p.m. in the House Room.
