As the end of the semester arrives, the writers of the University of Arkansas-Monticello Centennial Play put the finishing touches on the play illuminating the school’s history.
“We’re hoping to have all scenes by the end of the semester,” Mark Spencer, dean of Arts and Humanities, said.
He said he will take the scenes and make sure everything formats together. If all goes according to plan, the script will be complete in January.
According the Spencer, some scenes may be added to the play next semester.
Belinda Jeffers said she has talked with Spencer about possibly writing something after the holiday break.
Travis Nicholson, who wrote the minimal scenes involving journalists to tie the initial scenes together, said he will be taking Spencer’s class in the spring, so he would be available to work on any additions or changes to the script.
Nicci Norton, who took the lead on the play according to Spencer, said, “I will be happy to work on the play anywhere I can be of use. I am not just writing positively for the sake of promoting this play. I really believe it is one of the best ways we can honor UAM’s history. Anything I can do to contribute can be counted on.”
Spencer describes the play as “positive and playful,” and expects the tentative 45-minute production set for March to include a live band and images projected behind the sets.
