The University of Arkansas-Monticello Journalism Club will hold a fundraiser Wednesday, Feb. 10 in the John F. Gibson University Center.

“Love Shots,” instant 4x6 Valentines-themed photos with candy, will be taken from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be sold for $5.

According to Candi Marshall, president of the Journalism Club, the money will be used to fund submissions for The Voice and the Boll Weevil yearbook to compete in the Arkansas College Media Association competitions.

“We want to raise enough to submit as many articles as possible,” Marshall said.

She said the club usually does the Last Lecture Series as a fundraiser, but wanted to use the members’ skills as photographers to help raise more funds.

According to Treasurer Linna Jones, the officers discussed fundraising ideas and she thought the idea would be similar to having a Christmas picture made.

Vice President Susan Pruitt came up with a name for the event.

“I incorporated the main concept of Valentine's Day, love, and then thought the word ‘photo’ seemed lame. When someone takes a picture, it's a shot,” Pruitt said. “I liked the way ‘Love Shots’ sounded. It just sounded less corny than saying ‘Valentine Pictures.’”

Marshall said she had not seen something like “Love Shots” done on campus before and thought it would help make the Journalism Club become more visible.

“It’s a day of love,” Marshall said. “The pictures are for couples, friends or anyone.”
