SGA President Sandy Herring said Constitution Day neglected to take place Sept. 10 due to scheduling conflicts within the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The SGA rescheduled Constitution Day to Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Green Room of the John F. Gibson University Center.

Homecoming nominations remain due Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Programs and Activities office. Zack Tucker, temporary senate Pro-Tempore, said the nomination process includes a lengthier process than before.

“Homecoming is going to be completely different this year,” Tucker said. “There was talk about applications and interviews.”

Herring said the SGA nomination for Homecoming needed to take place since another meeting neglected to be scheduled until after the nomination due date.

“Certain nominations have to be approved by the cabinet,” Tucker said.

Tucker said Herring needed to talk with the cabinet and then appoint the nomination. The SGA Homecoming nomination announcement takes place during the senate meeting Sept. 17.

Homecoming nominations must have the following qualifications, which include:

  •    Have a least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
  •    Be currently enrolled in at least 12 hours
  •    Have completed at least 45 hours
  •    Cannot previously been elected as Homecoming queen
  •    Cannot have disciplinary record

Herring said students need to know the importance of carrying their student identification cards.

“Whether you are walking or driving and you are on campus, you have to have your student I.D.,” Herring said.

Tucker said having your identification allows Public Safety and administration to easily identify students from non-students. Tucker said 80 percent of trouble on campus comes from non-students.

Tucker said he recently looked at the Assembly’s revised constitution, which consisted mostly of changing grammatical errors and didn’t affect the student body.

“The only change to the bylaws that does affect the student body is that there used to be four student members on the Curricula Committee. Now, there are two.” Tucker said.

Tucker said the cabinet continues to work on its constitution and suggested Herring write a letter of support to the Assembly for their efforts.

Herring said the next Student Activities Board meeting takes place Sept. 15 at 12:45 p.m. Herring said the SAB plans to discuss Parent Appreciation Day.

Tucker said “Rowdy Crowd” t-shirts plan to be handed out during Parent Appreciation Day. Some of the Parent Appreciation Day activities consist of a jump house and an entertainer. Parent Appreciation Day takes place Sept. 19.
