The brothers of Phi Lambda Chi plan to host the 22nd annual Hotlegs competition at the Veteran of Foreign Wars building behind McCloy Park in Monticello.,Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The event takes place from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and participants must be 18-years-old and older. The entry fee is $3 pre-purchase or $5 at the door.

Proceeds go toward the community project of Phi Lambda Chi’s choice. David Waschalk said the competition has been a tradition in their fraternity since 1987.

The brothers of Phi Lambda Chi sponsor this event and expect 250 to 300 people to attend.  The “Water Limbo” competition will precede the traditional Hotlegs competition. The contestants sign up at the door for the contest of their choice for the first prize of  $100 or the second prize of $50.

He also explained about how the project was funded and what the proceeds go to.

“We go out on our own doing various fund raisers, and instead of asking for donations, we go out and earn it. Everything we earn goes back to the community,” Jim Spurlin, a member of Phi Lambda Chi said.

Spurlin talked about the atmosphere at the event.

“The girls watch the guys, the guys watch the girls, and everybody has fun. It's a good way for somebody to make a hundred bucks,” he said.
