SAB Makes Preparations for Spring Fling Week

MONTICELLO - The Student Activities Board met March 20 to discuss preparations for upcoming Spring Fling Week April 12 - 16.

   Yvonne Hinshaw, SAB chairperson, asked for volunteers to work at the various events during Spring Fling Week. She said students already volunteered to work during Karaoke Night April 13.

   Mindy Holcomb, director of Student Programs and Activities, said the Crawfish Boil T-shirts came in. She said she plans to sell the T-shirts April 8 - 12. She also asked for volunteers for the Crawfish Boil April 14.

   “It’s just dealing with the last-minute details like putting paper towels on the tables, Germ-X on the tables and putting trash bags around,” Holcomb said.

   Hinshaw said the SAB and Residence Hall Association plan to work together on the Karaoke contest. She asked for $500 for prizes for the event.

   Holcomb said gift cards can no longer be used because the money for SAB comes from state funds.

   “With state money, you can’t purchase a computer unless you purchase it from Dell. We can’t do gift cards. We are just going to have to rethink the way we do things,” Holcomb said.

   The SAB approved the monetary request for $500 for prizes for the Karaoke contest.

   Holcomb also said she recovered approximately 300 movie passes. She said she plans to hold a free movie night closer to the end of the semester.

   Spring Fling Week events include:

• Monday, April 12 -  Faces in Fantasy takes place in the Green Room of the John F. Gibson University Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Tuesday, April 13 - Bling Nation and Karaoke Night takes place in the Green Room of the John F. Gibson University Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Wednesday, April 14 - The Crawfish Boil and Mud Olympics takes place at Spirit Field. The Mud Olympics begin at 3:30 p.m. and the Crawfish Boil begins at 4:30 p.m.

• Thursday, April 15 - The 3-D Motion Theater takes place in the Green Room of the John F. Gibson University Center from 10 to 4 p.m. Mocha Madness begins at 7 p.m.

• Friday, April 16 - Movie Maker takes place in the Green Room of the John F. Gibson University Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
