MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas-Monticello Creative Society will hold its annual Mocha Madness event Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the Patio Café.

The event will take place during the semester’s “Spring Fling Week” for the first time.

Caleb Burger, who serves as the Choragus of the Creative Society with Sarah Pasterniak, said he does not know how being a part of the week’s festivities will affect Mocha Madness, but imagines more people will attend and possibly perform.

“The more the merrier in my opinion,” he said.

Burger said there will be more seating this semester after an overflowing attendance in the fall, which he calls one problem the organization likes to have.

The theme of “Enchanted Forest” will be used for the event. Burger said Creative Society member Jeffery Trotter came up with the idea for a previous Mocha Madness.

Gary Marshall, professor of Speech Communication and Creative Society adviser, said the organization looks for writers and performers of poetry, fiction, music, dance, acrobatics and original art.

“We are always looking for original work.” Burger said. “Anyone who has something creative to share with the audience.”

Marshall will send an e-mail for people to sign up to perform during the event. But performers may e-mail CreativeSociety@uamont.edu now with their name (as they want it to appear on the program) and a brief description of what they plan to do.

Burger said he encourages performers to sign up because the ones who sign-up will perform before those who sign up at the show for the open mic portion.

“There's only going to be approximately 25-30 prizes, and when they are gone, they are gone,” he said. “But that is what we like to see, because if we run out of gifts then that means plenty of acts participated which is really appreciated by the Creative Society.”

He said the performers make the event and the Creative Society appreciates their sharing and bravery.
