Letter from the Editor: Saying Goodbye
Linna Jones
Editor-in-Chief
When I started college in 2004, I never would have imagined I would be Editor-in-Chief of a newspaper my senior year. I didn't know I would be studying Journalism either, but life sometimes leads us to places we can never imagine. At the time, I didn’t know what I would do and I worked on my plan of completing my general studies. Now I am getting ready to walk across the stage to received my diplomas in English and Journalism.
Over the four years I have been in the program, I worked as staff writer and editor of the Arts & Entertainment section, Commentary Section, News Section and helped with Around Campus and Sports. I started working as Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Voice in the fall of 2007. Each section I have worked on as an editor provided its own set of challenges. Of all the positions I’ve held, the role of Editor-in-Chief would have to be my toughest challenge.
Working as an editor for The Voice to now has changed part of who I am. I had to change from being quiet and in the background to facing the spotlight and the responsibility of having a story with my name on it. The experience of working on The Voice has taught me to expand my horizons in writing and editing and to try new multimedia tools.
I have learned when you work with a group of people; they become a kind of family. I have worked with some good writers and all around good people since I started working on my Journalism degree. I admire the writing and leadership skills of former editor’s Brooke Burger and Danielle Kloap, the skills of several of The Voice photographers, the Fall 2010 Editor-in-Chief Douglas Boultinghouse for his many skills and the many others who have influenced me in some way.
I want to thank the many people who support The Voice from the Administration, the faculty and most of all, our readers. I wish the Fall 2010 Voice staff the best of luck for the next year.
Goodbye and Best Wishes,
Linna Jones
