MONTICELLO - Thursday, April 29 in the Forestry Conference Center, students and staff learned about the software the University of Arkansas at Monticello will start using in the Fall semester called WeevilNet.

The Registrar’s Office, Office of Admissions and the Information Technology Department presented a display of the Web site and a slide of the how the process will change for students.

Carol Dolberry, associate registrar for Veterans and Graduation, gave a demonstration of the programs for the students in attendance.

She said Students can automatically search for classes off their degree audit without being on multiple sites, if the course has been scheduled for a future term. . The site will also allow students to apply for graduation.

The program will inform students if they have a hold on a class and find out who put a hold on the class,. Dolberry described an example of this using a description of a freshman math hold. The hold is cleared after a student successfully completes a 1000 level or higher math course. Students can find the details of the hold. which office place the hold and how to clear it. The information will be available through WeevilNet.

Students also have the option of a to-do list. The to-do list is always available in the Student Center.  The to-do list may include missing items needed to complete an admission application or financial aid application, when it is time to submit a degree audit, etc.

“It is very important for students to check their UAM e-mail account,” Dolberry said.

According to Dolberry, effective July 1, 2010, University policy will be that e-mail will be the official form of communication to students and the @uamont.edu e-mail address will be used for sending e-mail items to the student.

Professors will be able to communicate with their classes as well. They can click on a class link and e-mail the entire class at one time.

First-year student Rebecca Saterfield attended the lecture for the new software. Saterfield started UAM in the fall. She said she was glad UAM was finally getting an upgrade

“It seems like it will be easier to use,” she said.

Susan Brewer said they would not start using the e-mail until the whole system is available. The log-in will be the same as the current student email account.

Anissa Ross, project manager from the IT department, presented information about some features of WeevilNet during the event. After the presentation, Ross, Dolberry, Bryant and Brewer answered students’ questions.

After the presentation, attending students and staff each received a door prize of a pen, a stress-relieving device in the shape of a computer and a memory stick.
