Phi Beta Lambda Holds First Meeting, Talks Business

   Phi Beta Lambda meet for their first meeting to discuss their future endeavors and to elect this year’s officers Sept. 18.

   The organization elected Kelly Freeman as president and to represent the organization for homecoming court.

   Other officers include:

    • Mimi Jean-Francois as vice president.
    • Rebecca Saterfield as secretary/reporter
    • Precious Burton as treasurer.

 
   The organization did not elect anyone for the position of Historian/Parliamentarian at this time.

   The organization did not planned any major events for the year at this time, but they have mentioned a charity event with the Arkansas Children’s hospital or the March of Dimes in the spring. They may raise money for a scholarship with School of Business.

   During the meeting, President Kelly Freeman talked about the benefits of the fraternity.

   “Some of the benefits of Phi Beta Lambda is acquire leadership benefits and win recognition at conferences,” Freeman said. “We’ll do community service, which will look good on your resume. It will improve and enhance your job skills. You’ll meet new people and business professionals, because sometimes it’s not what you know but it’s who you know.”

   As a division of the high school business group, the Future Business Leaders of America, Phi Beta Lambda is a business fraternity.

   “There’s it gives students the opportunity to learn about business skills,” said John Dennis Patterson, associate professor of Management and PBL’s advisor. “They engage in a number of competitive events every year. There’s like 30 different held at the Spring Leadership Conference. Members that do well in these events on the state level go on to the national level.”
