Student Health Services and the Student Activities Board will sponsor a blood drive for the American Red Cross Tuesday, Sept. 29 and Wednesday, Sept. 30 in the John F. Gibson University Center Green Room.
The drives will last from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Each donor will receive a free T-shirt and be eligible to win one of three $25 declining balance cards, which may be used at Java City or the Patio Café.
According to senior Yvonne Hinshaw, SAB Chairperson, students may donate in the name of an organization. The organization with the most donators will win a $100 Walmart gift card.
Director of Student Services Terri Richardson said, “Anyone who plans to donate blood should be sure to eat breakfast and lunch.”
The American Red Cross lists guidelines on its Web site for donating blood. It stresses that donators be healthy, free of colds and fever. With the flu season in full swing, interested donators sick on the day of the drive should wait to donate.
Richardson said Student Health Services hold blood drives twice a semester, once for the American Red Cross and once for LifeShare and usually receives a large amount of participation.
“We've had as many 87 units in a one day drive,” Richardson said.
