Financial Management Association Holds First Meeting

   The Financial Management Association to talk about FMA International and held an economic and financial discussion Oct. 8.

   Robert Graber, assistant professor of Finances, talked to the students about joining FMA International and the benefits students received from the organization.

   When joining FMA International, students can join at different levels depending where they are in their studies. The different membership types include:

  • Renewal
  • Existing member upgrading to National Honor Society
  • Existing member upgrading to professional membership


    The membership dues differ in price from one year to two years including:

    • Regular student members ship- $45 a year and $70 for 2 years
    • NHS membership- $50 a year and $80 for 2 years
    • Existing membership upgrading to NHS- $5 a Year
    • Existing membership upgrading to professional member- $45 a year and $90 for 2 years

        
         Students who want to join NHS must meet certain requirements. Undergraduates must be a standing junior or senior, have a 3.25 overall GPA or 3.25 GPA in Finance and related courses and completion of a minimum of six hours of Finance. Graduates must have a 3.5 overall GPA or 3.50 GPA in Finance or related coursework and completion of half required course work. The faculty advisor will have to certify the applicant meets all requirements.

       

          FMA International offers individual students benefits, optional benefits and other opportunities. These benefits include:

      • The book, “Careers in Finance”
      • Subscription to the “Financial Management Forum,” two issues per year.
      • Subscription to the “Journal of Applied Finance,” two issues per year

               After discussing the benefits of FMA International, Grabber talked about former guest speakers. Several speakers who spoke to the members of FMA included people from banks in the Monticello area, Monticello Chamber of Commerce, Edward Jones and local government.

               Graber discussed having University of Arkansas-Monticello alumni come and speakers from banks outside of Monticello.

               He advised seniors to ask questions and even prepare a resume to give the speakers.

               Graber and students discussed economic and financial topics and what might help students be successful in finding a job.
