| Real Thing - Singer-songwriter Graham Colton released two Extended Play sets on his Web site. He will release a new EP each month. |
Pop-rock singer Graham Colton released a couple of Extended Play sets to give fans new material and unreleased demos from previous sessions as he records his new album, the follow up to 2007’s “Here Right Now.”
The EPs are part of a “Sides” feature on Colton’s Web site.
“’Sides’ is not only a collection of B-sides, live tracks, and studio demos, but a project that I wanted to put together so that I could provide you with a closer look at the day to day process of writing songs and making records,” Colton says in the introduction.
The two current EPs, “Twenty Something” and “Pictures on the Wall,” continue the soft-rock and alternative vibes Colton mastered on his 2007 album, but take on a raw edge making the songs truly unique.
“Twenty Something” contains six songs, including the title track, “Love Comes Back Around,” “Helen,” “There Comes a Time,” “Right Behind You” and “Start Somewhere.”
Of the six, “Helen” and “There Comes a Time” stand out.
“Helen” brings a bittersweet calmness to the air as he sings of a surprising love while “There Comes a Time” sounds like it could have been a hit for The Beatles in the ‘60s.
On the second installment of five songs, “Pictures on the Wall,” he included “Real Thing,” “The Two of Us, “Raining Where You Are,” “Change in Time (Last Call)” and “Let Me Get to You.”
“Real Thing” could easily become a staple on Adult Contemporary radio if released with its Kings of Leon-like influences. The same goes for “The Two of Us.”
“Change in Time” possesses a very melodic sense that compels you to listen to the music, the lyrics - every detail of song.
Both EPs can be streamed on Colton’s Web site and purchased to download in digital format.
According to his note, he plans to release a new EP every month.
