WeevilNet: The Pros and Cons

Click, click, click and your eyes race as an unfamiliar screen continues to pop up. New images, new colors and even new words appear every time your finger hits the mouse.
Students finalized, so they thought, then the news comes ... their names appear no where in the registered lists. Passwords and user names denied!
From checking e-mail to adding classes to Blackboard, the change seems overwhelming. Aggravation and the loss of patience describe your feelings while using the new system, WeevilNet.
Anissa Ross, database administrator, says, “The old seems easy and the new seems hard but the reality is its only different and in this case, different is going to be so much better.”
After 25 years, the previous system could not support the needs of students and faculty members in a timely manner. With the new software, students have the ability to access and change information such as their name, phone number, address and emergency contact.
Checking degree audits for students adds to more of the positive aspects of WeevilNet. In the past, faculty members were only able to access advisement reports for students. WeevilNet allows students to perform their own degree audit and see what they need to fulfill their requirements.
The new system allows staff members to access information using a web browser with only one sign-on. This eliminates the requirement of needing multiple usernames and passwords. The advisement of students under the new system will also create less hassle for faculty members when trying to register students.
“Right now the only negatives we are dealing with is figuring it all out,” Ross said.
While Ross gives all the pros of the new system, students appear to not be as of accepting of the new system. Currently, there is so much confusion with WeevilNet, it has gained a bad reputation with the students. Hopefully in the near future, WeevilNet becomes more user friendly.
