The University of Arkansas at Monticello held its first game of the season at Willis "Leslie" Convoy Cotton Boll Stadium Sept 2 against the West Alabama Tigers.
Some of UAM’s organizational groups started off a pre-game tailgate at 4 p.m. surrounding Weevil Pond.
The Student Activities Board gave away free dog tags, provided food, music, bull-riding activites and paint for the face painting booths. The sororities offered their time to paint the faces of willing UAM fans.
Also providing refreshments were Phi Beta Sigma, Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship, Weevils for Christ, Union Bank, Biology/Medical Club, Tau Kappa Epsilon and Commercial Bank.
At 6 p.m. the Walk of Champions welcomed in the new season. The band, followed by the football team and cheerleaders, made their way onto the Convoy field.
The Weevils first game also appeared on the Gulf South Conference Television game of the week. The GSC-TV recorded the entire football game.
UAM’s band performed at half time along with the drawing of the for the half-time field goal kick.
UAM fans filled the visitor’s side of the bleachers wearing green in an effort to "green out" the stands on television.
“I love the down-home fun environment of our games,” SAB Chairperson Tiffany Reed said.
After the end of each quarter a member from the stands received a prize, also provided by the SAB. One member of the stand received a new laptop.
The final score for the Boll Weevils first game ending up being 20- 27, in West Alabama’s favor.
