Considering an assessment of current conditions, local competition and other factors, housing plans may include new residential facilities, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Jay Hughes said at the meeting.
Hughes also discussed plans for UAM to host a site for a tower as part of the Drew County Early Warning System. The upgraded version of the technology sounds six distinctive tones and is voice-capable so specific instructions can be given in real time.
Other safety and security measures Hughes discussed include the new student ID validation stickers and the UAM Emergency Notification System, which can deliver crucial information directly to registered cell phones via text messages.
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs David Ray announced increased registration and praised faculty and staff for keeping the registration process going smoothly despite weather delays.
Ray also announced changes to the upcoming catalog, including an updated communications major.
Athletics Director Chris Ratcliff reported 95 percent completion of upgrades to the weight room, calling the new equipment “top of the line.” He also discussed the hiring of William “Hud” Jackson as head football coach at UAM and the team’s entry into the new NCAA Division II Great American Conference.
