The University of Arkansas-Monticello Creative Arts Society hosted its bi-annual Mocha Madness Tuesday April 12 in the Patio Café.
The theme for this semester's Mocha Madness was "Imagination Creation." People who attended were encouraged to dress up like their favorite childhood character or imaginary friend.
A few participated in the dress-up contest and were judged by the audience. The person with the best reaction from the audience would be the winner.
Alice Guffey Miller won first place in the contest and Sarah Pasterniak and Autumn Morin tied for second.
The night started good and the crowd was lively. A few were disappointed that they didn't get to host Mocha Madness outside like they had hoped. The weather caused them to have it inside but it didn’t seem to keep the people away.
There were many varieties of treats and refreshments available at no cost.
Miller said that "Mars", Professor of Speech Communication Gary Marshall, wished he could have been there to participate in the fun. Marshall is the faculty adviser over the Creative Arts Society.
Bands played, stories were told and poetry was read. Many original pieces were presented.
Mocha Madness encourages original work but welcomes all other forms as well.
Maggie Barnett, a junior at Monticello High School, participated by singing in Mocha Madness's open mic. She said she really loved coming to "Mocha" and this was her second one to perform in.
Each person that performed on stage for Mocha Madness got to take home a homemade gift from the Creative Arts Society. Barnett chose a dragon hand puppet.
The Creative Arts Society welcomes all people to join and wants to expand their club.
Editor's Note: The names Pasterniak, Guffey and Morin were updated to reflect their correct spelling.
