'Lungs'

Florence and the Machine’s debut album "Lungs" is a listening pleasure. The album is a blend of intense ballads, like “Cosmic Love” and super-catchy songs like “Kiss with a Fist.”

The lead track “The Dog Days are Over” catches the listener immediately. The song opens with thumping beats and over-the-top poppy sound. The first words startle the listener with their rawness, “Happiness hit her like a train on a track.”

Florence Welch, a British singer and songwriter, beautifully crafts the lyrics.

Welch’s appearance is somewhat deceiving. She is a small, pale woman with red hair and a timid voice. But when she sings her voice transforms into a deep, clear and emotion-filled cry.

Every song has a unique feel but all of the tracks are masterfully pieced together. Florence and the Machine’s songs have gained the attention of many and have been used in several television shows and movies. “Cosmic Love” is featured in the movie trailer for “Water for Elephants.” Welch also wrote a song that was featured on the “Eclipse” soundtrack.

The album isn’t just music, it’s a sensory experience.
