The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Resident Hall Association along with the Student Activities Board held their annual Karaoke Night Tuesday Oct, 12.

At 6 p.m., Karaoke Night began in the John F. Gibson University Center’s Green Room. Free appetizers, along with mock tails (virgin drinks) were offered the entire night.

A few Greek student groups showed up to support for their sisters and brothers that participated. Any Greek who participated received one point and any Greek who won received three.

The judging pool consisted of Tiffany Reed, Latreshe Greer and Lewis Minnie. The judges judged contestants on their stage presence, appearance and originality, out of 20-point total.

The contestants chose from a long list of songs ranging from country’s “Hick Town,” pop’s “Pokerface” to rock’s “Use Somebody.”

Some contestants sang in large groups, such as Alpha Sigma Alpha, with “Before He Cheats.”

Between each performance, pop culture questions were asked to the audience for fun facts.

The 26 contestants were divided to the top six, then off to the top three.

Between the revealing of the top six and top three, intermission entertainment was provided. Tiffany Reed and Yvonne Hinshaw sang “I love Rock-N-Roll,” and Phi Lambda Chi freestyled.

   The top six consisted of:

  1. Jessica Coble singing “A Thousand Miles.”
  2. Sean Irby and Xavier McKenzie singing “When Loves Comes Around (Knock Me Down)”
  3. Tyler Hicks singing “Collide”
  4. Dominique Danzy singing “Unpredictable”
  5. Morgan Martinez singing “Listen to Your Heart”
  6. Leon Wilkerson singing “Home”

Overall the event  lasted to 9 p.m. with the announcing of the top three winners. Third place went to Danzy, wining $25 to the UAM Bookstore, and 2nd place went to Coble, who received $50 to the UAM Bookstore. The overall winner was Martinez, who participates in Sigma Sigma Sigma, which won three Greek points along with $75 to the UAM Bookstore.
